When Jon started working offsore back in 2007, it was a major adjustment for us both to make. We had only been married 7 months when he left to go offshore. It was the hardest decision that we have ever made. I won't lie, it took me months to cope with the lonliness. I spent countless sleepless nights on the couch, because I couldn't go to sleep with him gone. Once we got a routine down, life as an offshore wife became much easier.
This time is different in so many ways. This time is easier, not because we've been through this before, but because we both have learned to put our 100% trust in the Lord and let him have control of every detail of our lives. Technically, we haven't been in this situation before. Away from each other, yes, but he was only in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Louisiana. But this time, Jon will be gone a WHOLE month or longer, and he's in another continent. I have attached pictures of maps, so that you can see where he's at, and where he's been so far.
I took Jon to the airport in Little Rock yesterday. His flight left at 12:20 pm. He then flew to Houston. From Houston, he had a 15 hour non-stop flight to Dubai, which is located in the United Arab Emirates (just north of Saudi Arabia). From Dubai he will have a 6 hour flight to Mauritius. That's where he'll board his drill ship. Jon will be riding the drill ship across the Atlantic ocean almost all the way into the Gulf of Mexico...then he'll be flying home from somewhere around the Bahamas.
I am so excited for my husband. He is getting a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the world..And he's getting paid to do it. He also has the opportunity to spread God's word to lost souls on this oil rig. I pray that God uses him in a powerful way. We have had so many people praying for us, and I am so thankful for that.

ReplyDeleteI just wanted to take the time to tell you that I will be remembering you in prayer. I've never sent my hubby overseas to work, but sometimes it seems like it is that far. He is a welder and stays off on the road while the little one and I man the house. I am attending college so we can have a better life and maybe one day settle down in to a somewhat 'normal' life. I just wanted to encourage you. It gets easier, but still gets so hard day in and day out. I once had a lady (who's husband travelled to work) tell me that there's only a few of us out there that get to enjoy our time with our husbands like no other. A lot of people take their time with their honey for granted...but not us...the gals who long to see their husbands appreciate the time spent together more than anything. Just remember to make the most of the time you do get to spend together and allow yourself to draw nearer to God and dearer to your husband in the times you are apart! :0) I hope everything goes well for you guys.
